The Story of the Major Tradition

This is the web site of the research book based on the history of the UNP, once the biggest political party Sri Lanka. The book covers the first 31 years of the UNP from 1946 to 1977. The PART 1 of the book give a short introduction of the Socio-Economical background which lead to establish to UNP, and the PART 11 gives a detail historical factes on the political developments of the first 30 years after the independence for the British rule. PART 111 of the book covers the associated bodies of UNP such as youth league, women's League, student union, trade unions ect. The election manifestoes, list of office bearers, party song, and each and every candidate who contested under the UNP ticket until 1977.

What is UNP?

The United National Party is the only political party in Sri Lanka that has been represented in Parliament without an interruption, since Independence, and is also the only political party that has contested all elections held since the country won Independence, except the 2010 Presidential Election.

The United National Party that has recorded innumerable achievements and triumphs in the field of politics, brought into being an outstanding line of national leaders as well. It was once considered as the Biggert political party in Sri Lanka.
